Last week we spent a week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Lilly, Dave, and I spent the week with my mom, step dad, brother and stepbrother. It was a week filled with good company, yummy food and tons of fun in the sun. It was so nice to have extra hands to help with Lilly for a week. Although we quickly learned that beach vacations post-baby are not as relaxing as beach vacations pre-baby we had a great time nonetheless.
Nags Head has always been one of my favorite beach destinations. I had hoped that Lilly would love the beach as much as we do but that was not the case. Sweet girl did not like the beach at all. She wouldn't walk in the sand, touch the sand, get near the water, and did not like the heat. I guess in a way it was nice because we did not have to worry about chasing her down the beach or worrying about her running into the water. She would sit on a towel (as long as there was no sand on it) and play with her beach toys, read books and eat snacks. Dave and I would take turns sitting under the umbrella with Lilly. When we weren't sitting in the shade we were trying hard to get a tan! Our daily routine was to head down to the beach around 9:30 and stay until noon. Then we would come back up to the house have lunch and put Lilly down for a nap. Then I would go sit at the pool at the house and Dave would go back down to the beach and fish with my brother. It was definitely about compromise and team work and we made it work!
We ate at a delicious seafood restaurant right on the water. Lilly enjoyed playing peek-a-boo under the table cloth and had a healthy dinner that consisted of bread. Of course we hit up the outlet malls one morning but they were a little disappointing. I did find a super cute dress at JCrew though that was originally $60 and I paid $34 for it! We tried to have a photo shoot on the beach one morning but with my less than desirable photography skills and a precious girl who hates the beach the pictures were not as great as we had hoped!
We had a great week but were ready to settle back into our "normal" routine at home. Lilly is a girl after my own heart and loves her routine and is sometimes not happy when her routine is broken. We have spent today trying to get unpacked and re-establish our routine back in the "real world.
